Ask MacSlash: Mac As An MP3 Server

Hardware bbhagan writes "I would like to turn a mac into an mp3 player / server (hold all of my cd's and output to my tv/stereo.) What I want to know is, do I need to buy a G4 to get good fps on iTunes visualizations and decent sound out of the USB ports, or will an iMac suffice? What about video card capabilities, hard drive speed, RAM, etc. Is there anything else I should consider before I buy? Are there any good iTunes fps benchmarks out there?" Well, I saw an iMac in use by a DJ, hooked up to a projector and a screen the other night, and it seemed decent. But, a cool FPS benchmark would be interesting.
